
Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya called on students of various colleges from Kohima to share their knowledge to help and develop the society. He was addressing a meeting-cum-get together with college students from Kohima at Durbar hall, Raj Bhavan Kohima on February 16.
According to DIPR, Acharya stated that youth had the choice to do and undo what they wanted for their future and advised students not to be self-centered but share their knowledge for the welfare and development of the society. He opined that the government sector has reached a saturation point which is impossible to recruit every educated youth of the state, and encouraged the students to take up entrepreneurship.
Acharya said that educational institutions should also open up the minds of the students and skill development programmes should be implemented in all colleges. He said that the Nagaland University (NU) and 66 colleges affiliated under the University should focus and identify necessary skills requirements in the state and should introduce the programmes accordingly.
Acharya also remarked that the goal of educational institutions should not only confine to impart knowledge but to also make the students stand on their feet and further instructed NU to implement skill development programmes at the earliest in all colleges.
Principal secretary to governor, Piyush Goyal stated that Acharya being an educationist was keen on strengthening the education system in Nagaland as it empowers individuals and society. He said that the main purpose of the interaction was to grasp information about constrains faced with regard to infrastructure facilities, mode of teaching and other welfare activities for both faculty and student community.
Vice chancellor NU, professor, Pardeshi Lal also said that NU was offering various courses in different disciplines in the university and college levels and had sounded to introduce skill development programmes in all colleges. He further stated that is was mandatory to introduce the courses in all colleges. However, he opined that the colleges should also implement practical classes along with theory with regard to the skill development programmes. Pardeshi mentioned that with the introduction of Swayam and Swayamprabha programmes, students could choose more skill based courses.
Meanwhile, various colleges highlighted on activities with regard to skill development courses introduced in their colleges and how it had benefited students. Kohima Science College stated that under Swayam, the institution has identified 30 courses and will be starting from the new academic session. Japfu Christian College also stated that the college has introduced piggery and bee keeping amongst other programmes which have been beneficial to the students.
Further, Oriental College also informed that the institution was implementing skill development training to the students and will be introducing skill development programmes in the coming academic session. A total number of 17 colleges from Kohima attended the meeting.
