Signature campaigns on ‘clean election’ conducted

Signature campaign on “clean election & informed and ethical voting” was held at the SDO (C) office at Jakhama on February 21 with Kohima district SVEEP icon, Esther Natso.
According to DIPR, SDO (C), Jakhama and RO, 14 & 15 Southern Angami – I &II Assembly Constituencies, Alemyapang Longchar stressed on the importance of ethical, informed and inclusive voting. He opined that BLOs were agents of information on clean and ethical voting he exhorted the BLOs to educate voters of their rights under the constitution.
Longchar also requested political representatives present to not induce voters with money or threats and expressed hope that 14 & 15 Southern Angami assembly constituencies will cast informed votes ethically and set an example for other constituencies to follow.
In her speech, Esther Natso said that there were cases where people had rejected money offered for votes in support of the clean election campaign. She felt that radical change at once may be hard but she expressed her belief that if every individual play their parts, change should come.
Further, Natso called upon all the elders to be the first to set an example on clean and ethical voting.
Earlier, the signature campaign programme was chaired by EAC Kohima & ARO, 14 Southern Angami-I AC, I. Changsang, invocation by DB Jakhama, Notho Koso and vote of thanks was delivered by EAC Kohima & ARO, 15 Southern Angami-II AC, Weku Zhiemi.
The Kohima SVEEP Anthem was also played at the signature campaign programme and later, officials, BLOs, political representatives and village councils under Southern Angami village signed the pledge supporting clean elections.
Meanwhile, another signature campaign on clean election with Kohima SVEEP icon, Esther Natso as main speaker was held at ADC’s Conference Hall, Tseminyu on February 20.
According to DIPR, Tseminyu EAC and chairman of the programme, Er. Kevingo Kulnu said that voting should not be a result of inducement by money power but an individual choice.
Kohima SVEEP icon, Esther Natso explained to the gathering that the district SVEEP was aimed at bringing changes to electoral politics by educating the voters to stand for right voting decisions and to elect visionary leaders who were free of election malpractices.
She urged the participants to spread the message of the clean election campaign and to vote on one’s own choice for future development. Participants also appended their signatures to the clean election pledge.
The Kohima SVEEP anthem was presented by Benlo Thyu. Tsonga Kath offered invocation while Tenushwe Kent delivered the vote of thanks. DBs, GBs, Village Council members of the neighboring villages attended the programme.
