DEFCC conducts 2-day workshop

Department Of Environment, Forests And Climate Change (DEFCC), Nagaland held a two-day workshop on “Working Scheme Operation and Timber Trade” for officers and staff of the department (on March 8) followed by timber traders, wood based industries, HPC cleared mills and tree farmers (March 9) at Forest Office Complex, Conference Hall in Dimapur. 
On March 8, PCCF, CWLW Nagaland, S.P. Tripathy (IFS) graced the occasion as the chief guest APCCF (C) MoEF & CC, regional office Shillong, S.K. Agarwal (IFS) as guest of honour.
In his opening remarks, APPCF (T), Meyipokyim Aier (IFS) noted that as per the forest survey of India Dehradun, the reason of the recent decrease in forest cover was due to the increased frequency of Jhum cultivation. 
He also spoke about the importance of the department to help sustainably utilise resources.
Meanwhile, on March 9, PCCF & HoFF Nagaland, I. Panger Jamir  (IFS) graced the occasion as chief guest and stressed on the role of “timber traders” in improving the forests and environment. S.K. Agarwal (IFS) explained the “importance of proper operation of working schemes”.
During the workshop, comprehensive technical sessions were held on both days. Other resource persons were Dr. Kenei Miacheo (IFS) CF (STC), Y.M.Jami (IFS) CF (NTC), K. Ihevi Aomi (IFS) DFO Dimapur and Vivika Sema, forest ranger. The aim of the workshop was to sustainably utilise forest resources, improve forest cover and systematic stream lining of works
