A total of 61 students from Eastern Bible College, Dimapur were awarded graduation certificates in – Master of Divinity (15 male and 15 female); Bachelor of Theology (10 female and 15 male); Master of Divinity (Distance Learning) one female and two males; Bachelor of Theology (Distance Learning) one male and one female and 1 Master of Christian Ministry-one female.
The graduation was held at the 44th Convocation Service where the guest speaker, Rev. J. Uday Kumar (asst. regional secretary, ATAI) brought the message.
In his message Rev. Uday emphasised that having a calling from God was not for oneself but with a purpose to serve others. He said academic qualifications were not sufficient as what was more important was to always be in learning mode.
He said while other religions have many gods with names yet the one God in the Bible has His person described His other attributes through various names.
On the system of education, Rev. Uday maintained it was a borrowed concept and practise, and often in more ways than one, lacked relevance with the local context.
He strongly emphasised that God is the educator as He is also known by many names which denote His character.
Also Rev.Uday lamented that most church ministries neglected children, which he opined, was the reason why the young generation continues to veer away from God.
He also said when one committed oneself to serve God, it should include not only the wife but all the children and family. One of the travesties of consecration was the lack of emphasis on children.
Rev. Uday said when God called anyone, He also called the entire family and that there was no exception.
Earlier, the College magazine Kerygma was released by Editor-in-Chief Nagaland Post, Geoffrey Yaden. In his exhortation message, Yaden congratulated the graduating students and also the entire faculty for contributing to the momentous occasion.
He also reminded the graduating students that they ought to be the salt and light of Naga society which they could do if they put on all the armour of God as in Ephesians 6:13-17.
Principal of EBC Rev. Dr. Thungdemo Lotha gave the welcome address and after conferring the degrees and diploma also made the declaration and charge.
Special awards in various fields were also given to the graduating students by the visiting guests.
