Peace Channel conducted peace celebration and capacity building programmes at different schools on the theme “Concept of Peace and Peace Building” in March and April 2018.
According to a press release, resource persons for the 5 day programmes were Sedekieno Rino and Susan Kulnu.
Addressing club members, on different occasions Susan Kulnu Peace Channel Kohima District coordinator emphasised on the main objective of peace and peace building. She motivated students to contemplate peace and take up initiatives to transform a culture of violence into a culture of peace. She also, in a session, spoke about human rights calling these vital for everyone.
She also emphasized on the principal of “Do No Harm” and motivated students on leadership and life skills. On a different occasion, Sedekieno Rino, a peace activist, also spoke on Anti-War toys, as children may replicate the violent content they see on entertainment media.
Therefore she urged students to dream of a peaceful society and put in efforts towards changing oneself into promoters of peace to make the dream a reality. All together there were 227 quality peace club members along with 10 teacher animators of different schools who participated in the sessions. Peace channel is also undertaking similar programmes in other districts like Dimapur, Wokha , Mon, and Peren.
Peace Channel also organized a leadership training program for peace club members at Little Angel School (LAS) Wokha on April 13.
A press release issued from Peace Channel stated that speaking on the occasion, peace activist, Patrick W. Tungoe said that leadership was not about titles or designations but “a person who knows the way, goes the way and show the way.”
He also added that they should work on effective speaking and communication to be able to convince and communicate their message to the people.
Tungoe encouraged the participants to be willing to accept and overcome mistakes and failure adding that to be leaders they should work hard to build themselves in self-discipline, character and values by always setting good examples.
