Kaito to focus on progressive farmers

Minister for Agriculture and Cooperation, G. Kaito Aye, on April 19, said that his department’s main focus would be on progressive farmers “with cooperation to benefit the needy people.”
He was speaking at a felicitation program held for him by the Department of Cooperation at RCS Conference Hall Kohima.
According to a DIPR report, speaking on the occasion, Kaito assured the staff and officers that under his leadership the department would be strengthened and would progress with all round development in the state to the benefit of the people. He sought the department’s cooperation to make the department’s success story. According to Kaito, whatever little money the cooperative societies get should be used judiciously for the development of the people and he encouraged the department to serve the public with sincerity. He also said that many good schemes in the agri & allied sectors will be promoted soon in the state.
Delivering a brief profile of the Department, Wepe  Ritse RCS  stated that the statutory functions of the department were registration, supervision, assistance, counsel, control of registered cooperatives societies; control over cooperative education and training;  audit, inspection, arbitration and liquidation; development of cooperative movement and human resources; implementation of various schemes including NCDC and ICDP; recovery of loan etc. He also reported that there were 8011 registered primary Cooperative Societies, 7 state level Cooperative Federations and institutions and Marketing and Consumer Federation (MARCOFED) etc.
The programme was chaired by Secretary Cooperation, A. Chumremo Odyuo (IAS). Short speeches were delivered by Rokovisa Chase fom MARCOFED and President NSCFSA, K. Lirichum Anar.
