Advisor IPR, SCERT and village guard, Toshi Wungtung asked teacher educators to cultivate explorative, thinking, questioning and reasoning minds so that they could work better for the growth of society.
Addressing the first All Nagaland Teacher Educator Conference at SIEMAT conference hall, SCERT, on Thursday held under the theme “Changing Perspective and Approaches in Teacher Education”, the advisor reminded the teachers that the government and society anticipates only the best from teachers.
Asserting that teachers had more responsibilities, as knowledge and discipline come from the teachers, Toshi maintained that any society would look for the best characteristics in teachers to build itself up.
Wungtung also stated that a secure and sound society and quality individuals and leaders must come from the teachers.
He asserted that education must not be robotic, producing machine like students, but it must ensure that students become explorative and contribute to society.
The advisor assured teachers that the government would extend all possible help and will frame the best policies at the government level.
Principal secretary, School Education and SCERT, Menukhol John, in his brief address advocated for thinking and innovating together to see what could be done for tomorrow.
While lauding the teachers for their efforts and the literacy rate in the state, John asked whether quality education was being imparted to the students and if it could compete at the national or international levels.
Noting that Nagaland does not have sufficient facilities to train teachers, he assured the gathering that he would take up the matter of the teachers training directive given by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, which has directed teachers to complete training by March 2019 or face service termination.
Former chairperson National Council of Teachers Education (NCTE) prof. MA Siddiqui in his brief speech said teachers at all levels were important.
SCERT director T. Sekhose delivered the introduction of the programme.
Earlier additional director SCERT Kezhalenuo Kesiezie in her welcome note said that SCERT had organized the event having realized the importance of close coordinated approach for teacher’s education, both pre service and in-service.
She said that through this event, the state could formulate an integrated approach for teacher education in Nagaland and address the common challenge in achieving quality education in schools.
