To better the lives of the civilian population and reach out, especially to people of remote areas, Assam Rifles has been conducting various activities across Nagaland.
Chieswema Battalion: Chieswema Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) conducted an interaction with village GBs/Council members of Kezo Town and Kezo Basa Village under Kezocha sub-division at Chakabama on May 3.
According to AR PRO, during the meeting, issues pertaining to health, welfare schemes, development etc. were discussed. Assam Rifles assured them of unabated support in all their future endeavors and exhorted them to approach AR for any requirement without hesitation.
A total of ten representatives of various villages attended the meeting.
Phek Battalion: Phek Battalion, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) conducted a lecture & awareness programme on ‘Drug Free Nagaland’ at Kangjang village, Phek district (Nagaland) on May 4.
A press release from AR PRO said that the aim of the lecture and awareness programme was to create awareness about drugs and to save the younger generation from its ill effects. During the lecture different types of drugs and their repercussions were discussed. The locals were also educated as to how abusing drugs intravenously could lead to HIV/ AIDS and why IV (Intravenous) drug abusers were highly prone to contracting HIV/AIDS. The villagers were also advised to take drug addicts to the rehabilitation centre in Phek. The contact numbers of concerned officers of the ‘Nagaland AIDS & Drug Control Society’ at Phek were also shared with the villagers. A total of 24 villagers attended the awareness programme.
Medziphema Battalion: Medziphema Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) organised a lecture & counselling on HIV/AIDS at New Chumukedima village on May 4.
The aim of the event was to create awareness about HIV/AIDS and work towards making Nagaland HIV/AIDS free. Three members from Primary Health Centre Medziphema and two officials from District AIDS Prevention and Control Centre, Dimapur also attended the event and educated the locals on probable routes of acquiring HIV, symptoms of HIV and safety precautions to guard against HIV/AIDS. The event was attended by 65 locals from New Chumukedima village: 20 youth, 30 women and 15 elders.
Dimapur Battalion: Dimapur battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters of Inspector General of Assam Rifles (IGAR-N) on May 5 extended assistance to Nagaland Ex-Servicemen Association (NESA) in a brief ceremony at Dimapur.
A press release by Assam Rifles stated that materials were handed over to the association in the presence of DIG, 6 Sector Assam Rifles, Brig. Shibaji Das and president NESA, Col. S. Rengma (Retd).
Speaking on the occasion, Brig. Shibaji emphasized that the army and the Assam Rifles were committed to the welfare and well being of the ex-servicemen and assured of all possible assistance and support for veterans and their families in all their future endeavours.
Kiphire Battalion: Kiphire Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) organised an essay writing competition at Mount Saramati School, Pungro on May 5.
AR PRO, in a press release said that the aim of the competition was to create awareness about water as a resource. The topic for the essay writing was “Save Water & Save LIfe”.
A total of 52 students participated out of whom five best essays were shortlisted and prizes were distributed to the winners. The event culminated with some light refreshments and an informal interaction with students.
Mokokchung Battalion: Mokokchung Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) conducted a lecture on HIV/AIDS at Tuli on May 5.
A press release from AR PRO said that the aim of the lecture was to create awareness about the adverse effects of HIV/AIDS on individuals and society at large. Villagers were educated about how drug abuse also leads to HIV/AIDS. The attendees were also made aware of the various initiatives and schemes to eradicate HIV/AIDS from the society and the steps taken by National Aids Control Organisation (NACO) to control this disease. A total of 20 persons attended the lecture.
