May 24, 2018 | by admin

Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) education tour’s first phase reached Wokha and the federation, accompanied by Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) visited schools and interacted with the students and staff.
The federation visited Government High School Wokha Village, Government Middle School Wokha-A, Government Higher Secondary School Wokha and Mt. Tiyi College Wokha.
During the interactions it was learnt that government schemes and funds allotted for students had not met the needs of the students as projected, the school uniforms for the students till the 7th standard had not yet been received and the textbooks had not been issued/distributed by the department authorities.
NSF president, Christopher Kesosul Ltu, cleared doubts and heard the grievances of the students from the high schools as well as from the college.
While addressing the teachers he appealed to them to not let their decisions hamper the future prospects of the students or their own. Agitation and boycotting of schools/classes should not cause total shutdown of schools and educational institutions he stated. The NSF president said that all primary school teachers were not SSA teacher appointees and the SSA teachers need to be stationed and present at the schools even though the normal teaching and classes were not being conducted.
NSF general secretary, Imti Yapang pointed out the importance of continuity of topics in the system of education when they learned that the NBSE and SCERT patterns were completely different.
The federation noted that regular changes in the syllabus, even slight ones, adversely affects smooth education although it accepted that updates were required.
The federation also lamented the normal functioning of schools and colleges being hampered due to the by-polls. The NSF president had also met the Nagaland Election Commission and mentioned that the EC was constrained to impose on the educational institutions due to non-availability of resources.
The need of local and regional authors being included in textbooks as well as essays on Naga history for teachers to educate students on the society and history of Naga social life, were expressed and deliberated. Lack of human resource and study and teaching aids were also pointed out by the staff of the institutions. Setting up a ‘Human Resource Development Center’ for the teachers and lectures to enhance their field of teaching was also brought up. The first phase was carried out on May 22 with a visit to Tseminyu, and the team intends to cover Mokukchung, Lumami and Zunheboto also.
