Many organizations and institutions in Nagaland joined the rest of the world in observing International Yoga Day on June 21. Following are some more reports from across the state.
Bureau of Outreach Communication: Along with the rest of the country, International Yoga day under the theme “Yoga for Peace” was celebrated in Dimapur at Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School. A press release from P. Sophie of the Ministry of I&B, Bureau of Outreach Communication (BOC) said the program was organised by FOB, Tuensang, BOC, Ministry of I&B, Government of India in collaboration with PVHSS. In his keynote address, Manoj Bhattacharjee, principal of PVHSS highlighted the significance of the day. Sajal Roy, Yoga instructor, gave a demonstration of various yoga postures (Asanas). A quiz competition on the topic of Yoga was also conducted to mark the occasion.
Nehru Yuva Kendra: Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt. of India, Dimapur in association with Youth Welfare Club and NSS Unit DBHSS Dimapur, organized District Youth Convention & 4th International Yoga Day on June 21 at DBHSS Auditorium Hall in Dimapur.
UNV- DYC, NYK, Dimapur, K. Phyobemo Lotha, in his keynote address, said the program was aimed at introducing and highlighting issues of Social and National importance which needs to be taken up jointly. He also disseminated information and orientation on existing and newly introduced programs and scheme of NYKS.
Guest speaker, principal DBHSS, Fr. P.G. Joshua exhorted the young volunteers how to glorify God by making sacrifices for others.
Keynote speaker and team leader of Serendip Guardians, Rini Ghosh, spoke on the topic ‘Healthy Mind for a Healthy Body’. In her address, she said that there could be no health without mental health. In the morning session, Acarya Cittaprasananda and Acarya Sadbuddhananda led the youngsters in a mass yoga performance where about 300 volunteers of NYKS, NCC, NSS, Youth Club members participated.
NYV Volunteer, Ahthibung Block: Ahthibung Block under Peren District observed the fourth International Yoga Day on June 21 under the aegis of Vahneihoi (NYV Volunteer, Ahthibung Block).
Village ASHA member Hatkholam Changsan who graced the occasion as the resource person, elaborated the concept of yoga and highlighted the importance of yogic postures in maintaining a balanced and healthy life. She also taught several “Yoga Asanas” to the gathering. All together a total of 100 people including village council members, youth and students’ union and teachers also participated in the event.
KROS College: As per the directions of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India, KROS College, Leirie, Kohima celebrated International Day of Yoga on June 21 by conducting activities for dissemination of yoga knowledge and popularization of International Day of Yoga.
MGM College: The 4th International Day of Yoga was observed at MGM College in collaboration with Department of Youth Resources and Sports on June 21.
The program was held in two sessions– the first session was an orientation program followed by practical yoga poses. Students from MGM College, MGM Hr Sec School and Yemhi Memorial College participated in the program. Addressing the students gathered, woman president of Patanjali, Rita Singh spoke about the importance of yoga and its health benefits while in the second session, the students along with the trainers performed various poses. Rita Singh along with the Yoga instructors Gaithoilu, Geeta Devi and R.K Gupta taught many yoga poses. The program was arranged by Sangita Bora,a professional yoga trainer and a faculty of MGM Hr Sec School. The principal also said that she will start regular yoga classes in the college.
Model Christian College: Model Christian College observed International Yoga Day in the College Auditorium on June 21. On the occasion, assistant professor, department of Political Science, Henjalen Lhouvum spoke about ‘International Yoga Day’, and the importance of physical and mental wellbeing which yoga brings. The program was chaired by assistant professor, department of Botany, Nengpilhing Singson. The other highlight of the program was a special number by Vizünü Noswe, B.Sc. 5th semester.
