Revised National TB Control Programme (RNTCP) conducted its quarterly review meeting on June 27, at Directorate of Health & Family Welfare (DH&FW) Kohima conference hall.
At the program, a welcome address was delivered by RNTCP state program officer Dr. Tiasunup Pongener.
All district TB officers along with their respective staff, Dr. Kevichusa Medikru, Mission Director (NHM), State Program Officer (NHM), NE Consultant – RNTCP Dr. Palash Talukdar attended the meeting.
In a press release, DH&FW state program officer (RNTCP) Dr. Tiasunup Pongner stated that the state program officer told the meet that that quarterly review meeting would be held regularly and that all staff should attend it without fail.
NHM mission director Dr. Kevichusa, addressed the meeting and said that Nagaland has been consistently performing well, but last year the performance was not as good. The Government of India has set the target year of 2025 to eliminate TB.
An additional benefit in the form of Nutritional support is recently being introduced for all TB patients. Every presumptive TB case should go for CBNAAT testing. Giving an overview of the performance indicators of all the districts, the release said Kohima district has been doing well and its NIKSHAY entry status is also at 100%, whereas Tuensang district has become the lowest the default rate is also higher in Tuensang district.
In Kohima district, two patients have already started on Bedaquilline. Bedaquiline is the active substance in TB drug which is also sometimes known by the trade name of Sirturo Bedaquiline which works by blocking an enzyme inside the Mycobacterium tuberculosis called ATP synthase. This enzyme is used by the bacteria to generate energy and without the ability to generate energy, the TB bacteria die and the patient’s condition will start to improve.
Later, the SPO expressed his gratitude to all the Districts TB officers and staff for attending the meeting.
