Woman critically injured in electrocution

An aged lady, who did not wish to be named, was reportedly the victim of an electrocution near a transformer installed close to a pedestrian footpath in Kohima, on August 15 at around 8:10 a.m.

According to a press note issued by one Cipakhuyi Rhakho, who said he was an eyewitness to the incident, the lady who was on her way towards the PHQ from town area, stopped to pick some plants. That was when she was electrocuted,  suspected to be because of the unfenced mini transformer located nearby. 

The release claimed that the incident was also witnessed by a police patrolling party initially but no one came forward to help. 

He further stated that an individual who happened to be passing by the vicinity rescued her and alerted nearby residents & passersby. The victim was later taken to NHAK.

Rhakho further stated that the victim was currently in the ICU of NHAK and her condition was still critical. 

The press note urged the concerned department to be serious, aware and careful with their installations of equipment so that they may not endanger the lives of the innocent public.

“No FIR nor any complaint was lodged by the victim family” Rhakho said and urged the police and the concerned department to conduct a thorough investigation in order to avoid such dangerous and unexpected occurrences in the near future.
