BJP has trashed Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee’s (NPCC) accusation against deputy chief minister Y Patton of making a “mockery” of Nagas before the eyes of Mizos for Patton’s statement that Nagas had accepted BJP.
Terming the accusation as amusing and a personal attack on its leader who had outshone parochial NPCC leaders, BJP said it was an attempt on the part of Congress to hog headlines.
Likening NPCC to a “paper tiger”, BJP through its media cell said Congress was still building “political castles” in the air by ignoring ground realities.
Claiming that its (BJP) vote share was 14% during the last Assembly election and that its success rate was more than 50% – having won 12 of the 20 seats it had contested – and highest among all political parties, BJP said it implied its acceptance by the Naga people. It compared its figures with that of Congress, which failed to win a single seat despite having fielded candidates in all the 60 constituencies.
On poor road condition in the State, BJP asserted that PDA was doing its best to amend and initiate what successive governments in the past, including Congress, had failed in this sector. Though recent natural calamities in the State had hampered ongoing road repair works and construction of new roads, the ruling coalition was committed to deliver its promises, especially on road sector, BJP reiterated.
Reminding that Union minister Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation stone for 4-lane of Dimapur-Kohima NH-29 near Chathe river bridge, Patkai College junction Chümoukedima in November 2015, the party said it was a fulfilment of the announcement made by then PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee during his maiden visit to Nagaland in October 2003. This was evident that BJP has concerns for development of the State, it added.
Accusing Congress of putting the four-lane project in cold storage when it ruled the Centre for 10 years (2004 to 2014), BJP asked NPCC why it was silent at that point of time.
The party claimed that it was only after BJP under Prime Minister Narendra Modi had come to power in 2014 that the 4-lane project was revived, and that soon the people of Nagaland would have quality road. It admitted that the people would have to bear with the inconveniences caused while works were on progress for the time being. BJP added that it welcomed constructive suggestion rather than criticism just for the sake of it.
