NSCN (I-M) clarifies on arrest of its members

December 3, 2018 | by admin

NSCN (I-M) has clarified that two of its members (Brownson and Sunikiu) arrested by police were not kidnappers as alleged by the complainants and the Public Action Committee (PAC) of Naga Council Dimapur (NCD).

NSCN (I-M) through its MIP appealed to the PAC and Naga civil society organisations (CSOs) not to randomly accuse the group or brand any suspects as its members without verifying the facts. It said that doing so could be misconstrued that PAC or CSOs hold grudge against the group. “It will be for the good of all not to quickly jump to conclusions on every sparks of incidents of anti-social activity and attribute to the NSCN on mere guess or suspicion, for it can embolden the anti-social elements to continue with their nefarious activities,” NSCN (I-M) stated.

According to MIP, two of its members acted on the request of a Naga businessman who was swindled of lakhs of rupees by non-Naga scammers. It said non-Naga swindlers were detained for questioning when they arrived in Dimapur and not kidnapped as alleged.

MIP stated that main culprit was a former employee of Indian armed forces, who was posted in Naga area earlier before being terminated for indulging in illegal activities, adding that he continued to do so even today.

MIP said had it not been for the timely intervention of its members, the main culprit and his team of swindlers would have continued hoodwinking the Nagas.

It said two of its members were arrested by the police based on false information provided. NSCN (I-M) has praised its team for having responded to the call of the brethren.

Meanwhile, the NSCN (I-M) has appealed to the police to release the two of its arrested members in good faith.
