BBBP program in Wokha

District Administration Wokha, in collaboration with Medical department of Wokha, organized an awareness program on Pre-Conception & Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques ACT 1994 (PCPNDT) under “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” (BBBP) “Save the Girl Child” activities on December 14 at Tiyi Town Hall Wokha Town.

A press release from CMO Office Wokha, Media Officer NHM, Mhonbeni Ezung stated that resource persons for the program were Dr. Nounenuo Terhase, MO (Obs & Gyn) DMMDH, and Shanchobeni Khuvung WDLSA. Dr. Nounenuo spoke on the inception of PNDT provision ACT 1994 and the importance of this ACT. She stated that before this ACT, USG machines were being abused and it became a booming business in the market as there was rapid growth of sex selection of unborn children and preference of a male child over a female child leading to female foeticide. To end this the PNDT ACT 1994 came into being.
She also spoke on teenage pregnancy and cancer of the cervix which is one of the major issue pertaining to women’s health. 
WDLSA, Shanchobeni, spoke on the offences, penalties and punishments pertaining to this ACT. Citing the Indian Penal Code (Section 312-318), PNDT ACT 1994, its amendment in 2003, and the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) ACT she said that under law, when sex determination takes place, women undergo physical and mental harassments and as such the above mentioned sections are there to provide assistance to women in distress. Thungdeno PD (DRDA) Wokha also spoke in the program and expressed her thanks.
The program was chaired by Dr. Tumchobeni MS DMMDH Wokha, keynote address was given by Dr. Khelito Zhimomi DIO Wokha. A vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Thungchanbeni DPM (QA). The program was attended by Lotha Eloe Hoho, Village Council Chairmen, ASHAs, teachers and CMO staff Wokha.
