Free health camp in Tuensang

Marking the weeklong celebration of “National Girl Child Day” under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign, Tuensang district administration and department of Social Welfare, in convergence with the Health & Family Welfare department, conducted a Free Health Camp at Sotokur Village, Tuensang on January 23.

A press release issued by DC Tuensang stated that the program was held at Sotokur Council Hall. 

Speaking about the BBBP campaign, DPO (ICDS), Hutoi Sema, in his keynote address stated that Tuensang district was taking part in the awareness campaign with door to door campaigning by AWWs and ASHAs. He also spoke about giving equal opportunities to the girl child.

Rev. Akhang, pastor of Sotokur Baptist Church, who said the invocation to start the program, read the BBBP pledge translated into the local dialect (Yimchunger) and urged villagers to strive to achieve the goals of the scheme for  advancement of society. 

AMO Tuensang, Dr. Pangjung also spoke on the declining Sex Ratio in Tuensang district. “Teach a man you teach an individual, teach a woman you teach a family” he stated. He urged the village authority, Church and elders to advance the culture of giving the best education to the girl child.

EAC Sotokur, Khiumong, who chaired the program, in his closing remark thanked all the participants for the event’s grand success.

Earlier, the VDB secretary extends a warm welcome to the District team and expressed joy to host such a program in their village.

The District Team included Dr. Moa, MS; Dr Chemithung, Dr Ezung, Dr Emmanual, five Nurses and Swasth Bharat Prerak POSHAN Abhiyan Tuensang.

About 210 patients, including pregnant and lactating mothers, adolescent girls, children and the elderly, benefited from the health camp. Free medical treatment and medicines were provided to all the patients and Sanitary Napkins were distributed among adolescent girls in the village.
