More highlights from NLA session final day

 The third session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, concluded on February 26. Following are some more highlights from the final day of the session.

Opposition objects to poor attendance of AHODs/HODs during session: Opposition member Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu expressed displeasure over the thin attendance of Administrative Heads and Heads of Departments, stating that whatever was discussed in the assembly should be noted by these officers to ensure that the lapses and anomalies were rectified in future. Azo, speaking in the Budget Debate, asked the leader of the house to strictly notify administrative heads and heads of departments to attend the assembly and also appealed to the deputy speaker to ensure that rules and procedures of the assembly and decorum are maintained.

Reduce the number of Hornbill festival days: Azo questioned the 10-day Hornbill festival’s credibility stating that it had become unpopular and insisted that the number of days it was celebrated should be reduced.

He also asked for proofs about the revenue generated (amounting to Rs. 62.88 crore), the 8715 jobs created and who the people employed were.

Also disagreeing with the Mini Hornbill concept, Azo said it “camouflages” the Hornbill festival adding that the significance of tribal festivals should not be misused

Posting of AHMs and HMs ASAP: Also taking part in the debate, advisor School Education, K. T Sukhalu said there is a big shortage of Assistant Head Masters (AHMs) and Head Masters (HMs) owing to a legal case on the seniority issue. He however assured the house that AHMs and HMs will be posted as soon as possible.

He also clarified that the introduction of the four year B.A-B.Ed program in all government colleges across the state was aimed at saving time.

Government seeks additional funds for Khelhoshe Polytechnic upgrade: Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio on the upgrade of Khelhoshe Polytechnic to an Engineering College, said State government has raised the matter with the Fifteenth Finance Commission and submitted a plea for grant of Rs. 75 crore in its supplementary memorandum, to facilitate the upgrade.
