
A Memorial to Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse, Maha Vir Chakra (Posthumous), was unveiled at St. Xavier Higher Secondary School (SXHSS), Jalukie, Peren district in a ceremony organized by the Assam Rifles in collaboration with Ahthibung Region Club (ARC) on April 26.
A press release from ARC vice chairman, Henpu Kuki stated that Captain Kenguruse was an alumnus of SXHSS and he completed his schooling back in April 26, 1990. He was later commissioned as an officer into the Indian Army on December 12, 1998 into 2 Rajputana Rifles.
During the program, Neiselie Kenguruse, father of Captain Kenguruse, motivated school children to study hard and never give up which, he said, is the only way to achieve success. He also thanked the Assam Rifles and SXHSS for organizing the event.
DIG 6 Sector Assam Rifles spoke about the courage and valour shown by Captain N Kenguruse living up to the traditions of the Indian army. The DIG further stated that Captain Kenguruse had sacrificed his life during operation Vijay, of the Kargil War, in the line of duty for the nation.
Due to his indomitable courage and valour, the battalion was able to achieve one of the most daunting missions assigned to it. He was awarded the Maha Vir Chakra, the second highest military decoration in India, for this act of gallantry.
The memorial was unveiled by his parents Neiselie and Dinuo who were chief guests of the event.
The unveiling ceremony was also attended by DC Peren, DIG 6 Sector AR, SP Peren, principal of St. Xavier Higher Secondary School, village heads of Jalukie, Athibung and Peren, and others.
Wreaths were laid by the guests at the memorial.
The ceremony ended with singing of the National Anthem.
