People for Democratic Rights (PDR) has questioned the state government over the “release order” issued to additional controller and HoD, Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection (LM&CP) department, who retired on March 31, 2019.
PDR through its media & publicity affairs claimed that release order was issued towards the end of March just before the officer retired.
The rights group said that the order was issued despite its request to the government to issue any such release order with conditions since the officer was under investigation by the then vigilance commission (now merged with Lokayukta) with regard to various irregularities in appointments, regularizations and promotions of individuals and staff in the LM&CP department.
Since the then vigilance commission was investigating issues in LMCP, the PDR has urged the Vigilance/Lokayukta to clarify whether it gave clean chit to the recently retired HoD and other retired and serving officers in the department, which prompted the government to issue the particular release order.
PDR also urged the government to clarify on what grounds the release order was issued and whether any conditions were mentioned in the release order.
The rights group said that justice was a far cry for the public “if an officer/s who is clearly seen breaking all office memoranda of the government can be given such a free run”.
PDR said it has been remaining calm over the ongoing investigation into LMCP and tourism departments since it respected the authority of the Vigilance Commission/Lokayukta.
However, PDR said that the “quietness” should not be misconstrued as having forgotten the issue.
The group said it was only patiently awaiting the outcome of the investigation depending upon which any further steps could be taken.
