State seeks Centre’s support in completing medical college in time

Nagaland Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) minister S Pangnyu Phom has sought continuous support from the Union H&FW ministry in completing the Nagaland Medical College (NMC) in time.

Meeting Union H&FW minister Dr Harsh Vardhan and Union minister of state (MoS) for H&FW Ashwini Kumar Choubey at the former’s chamber in New Delhi on Monday, Phom appraised the Union ministers both on NMC and National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). 

Pointing out that Nagaland was the only State that did not have a medical college, he said the State government was fully committed to make the medical college functional by 2020-21 and sought continuous support from the Union H&FW ministry to complete the work within the stipulated time. 

Phom also congratulated both Vardhan and Choubey for assuming office as Union H&FW minister and MoS of H&FW respectively and expressed his confidence that under their leadership the nation would see tremendous strides in the health sector. 

Phom was accompanied by H&FW principal secretary Himato Zhimomi and H&FW director Dr Vizolie. This was stated in a press release by media secretary to H&FW minister, Nagaland.

On June 8, Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio along Health & Family Welfare minister S. Pangnyu Phom and others visited the Medical College site, Phriebagei Kohima, to review ongoing work.
