PVC celebrates 6th Phuvklu Day

Phuvkiu Village Council (PVC) celebrated its 6th Phuvklu Day at Phuvklu council hall on June 18.

A press release from PVC, Kiphire, stated that speaking on the occasion, Khiutsikiu chairman VCC lamented that the village name was changed from, “Chomi” to “Phuvkiu” on June 18, 2013. Since then, villagers have been celebrating the event as Phuvkiu Day, he added. 

He further stated that based on the village name used by ancestors and renaming of the village thereafter, he urged the villagers to propagate the use of village name as Phuvkiu and not as Chomi. Kamkiu pastor Phuvkiu Baptist Church (PBC) stressed on the importance of knowing one’s origin and meaning, taking into consideration ancestral oral history as Nagas have no written history. Earlier in the programme, invocation prayer was offered by Rupewmew catechist CKS, Lensi David VDB secy chaired the programme, welcome address by Konkhiukiu 2nd GB and words of gratitude was delivered by Kiusumew head GB.
