Three wards in Kohima namely Naga Bazar (ward-4), Daklane (ward-7) and New Market (ward-8) have asked the urban development department to construct a common septage treatment plant for the wards.

A letter was written to director, urban development by Naga Bazar Panchayat (NBC) chairman Thezielhoulie Sorhie, NBC secretary Thepfusavi Suohu, Duklane Panchayat chairman, Mhiesizokho Zinyu, DP secretary Khuvishe Atomu Zhimomi, New Market Area Panchayat chairman Ruokuobeizo Nyusu, NMAP secretary Kezhaselhuo Yalietsu highlighting the grievances of the wards.

The signatories reminded the department that a proposal for constructing a large septage treatment plant was made in 2016-17. They said the wards welcomed the proposal and submitted letters of acceptance to the authority concern. However, the signatories lamented that the response was still awaited.

They pointed out that the region was now infested with random discharge of septic tanks into the drains and as a result the people are facing great difficulties due to lack of regular septic services.

The signatories said the wards have been eagerly looking forward for implementation of the plant which would go a long way in promoting sanitation in the entire region. The signatories have asked the department to take up the project without further delay.
