
Dimapur police Monday arrested the main accused involved in the firing incident on the night of August 4, 2019 at Purana Bazar, wherein one person namely Mikato Yeptho was shot in the leg. The arrested accused has been identified as one Puloto Awomi (24), son of Shikaho Awomi of Surumi village, Zunheboto district and currently residing at Purana Bazar near High School.
According to Dimapur police PRO, a case has been registered with East PS Dimapur in connection with the firing incident. Police said that the arrested accused has been remanded to police custody for further investigation.
ANCSU, DNSU condemn
All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has vehemently condemned the “heinous crime” committed against its member Nikato Yeptho, representative to ANCSU from Eastern Christian College.
In a press release, ANCSU vice president Benjong Longchar and general secretary Vimieyiekho Vitso said that the victim was shot twice at point blank range by PulotoAwomi, at around 9pm Tuesday.
ANCSU said that the “barbaric act” against the innocent student was “a serious threat to the student community”. Denouncing the act, ANCSU stated that the “intention behind the attempt of murder” was highly questionable.
The union asserted that it would “not shy away in this matter and shall be vigilant until justice is delivered to the victim.”
ANCSU also appealed to the state government and law enforcing agencies to book the accused under appropriate section of law. It further appealed to the responsible authority not to grant bail to the accused under any circumstances.
DNSU: Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has vehemently condemned the barbaric act perpetrated on Nikato Yeptho, a student of BA 5th semester Eastern Christian College and a resident of Padum Pukhuri by one Puloto Awomi.
In a press release, DNSU president Sedevilie Angami and general secretary B Mhajan Tsopoe asserted that the union would not tolerate such kind of inhuman act committeed on any of the students or general public, DNSU has appealed to the law enforcing egencis to award befitting punishment to the perpetrator as per the law.
