
District science seminar organised by the Directorate of School Education (DoSE), Nagaland with the District Education Office (DEO), Mon was held on September 3 at GHSS, Mon under the topic “Periodic Table of Chemical Elements: Impact on human welfare”.
According to DIPR report, ADC Mon, Hiazu Meru in his speech expressed hope that such kind of programmes will instil a sense of scientific knowledge to the young students, so that as they grow up they will have the scientific bent of mind and will be able to judge things rationally.
ADC said, that to truly project “our” country beyond certain perceptions, advancement in science and technology was the need of the hour. Emphasising on the importance of scientific interventions in life and how it has made life easier in so many ways, the ADC said that today one can truly say that “we” are living in a global village. At the same time, he said that one must also be wary of the dangers of scientific advancements.
Also pointing out on education system where generally the primary focus has been on securing government jobs, Meru stated that govt. jobs in Nagaland was already saturated and that one should think beyond government jobs. He urged the students to broaden their horizon, think rationally and use their scientific bent of India.
Competition on the said topic was conducted, wherein a total number of 20 students participated from 18 different schools. The first position was bagged by Shongmeth M Konyak from Sacred Heart School, Mon, second position went to Aphot Konyak from Model School, Mon and third position was secured by Mina Chetri form Green Valley School, Mon. Candidate who secured the first position will be participating at the state level science seminar to be held on September 11 at Mokokchung.
