International Day of peace under the theme “climate action for peace” was observed for three days in prayer, fasting and peace healing service and culminated on September 21, at National Peace Prayer Center (NPPC), Nihoto village with minister PHED, Jacob Zhimomi, as special guest.
A press release from North East Indigenous People’s Forum (NEIPF) convenor Nagaland, Yibemo Kikon stated that, Jacob while addressing the gathering, stressed the importance of peace and harmony and it should be incorporated in everyone’s mind and soul for a better world. He encouraged the promotion of peaceful environment in the circle of life, saying it was also important to develop good social relationship and contribute to building a culture of peace.
Yibemo Kikon presented keynote address, wherein he noted that peace was the need of the hour, as there were so many differences of attitude, concerns and life style in big conflict. The message of climate action for peace is not only about environment and health but also about security of human life, he added.
He maintained that there are 370 millions of indigenous people around the world and spread across more than 90 countries and that these communities were often subject to harsh realities and face discrimination in country’s legal system in many parts of the world. He stressed that peace can only be achieved if concrete action was taken to combat climate change.
Programme was chaired by NPCC director Dr. Hesheto Y. Chishi, women pastor Baptist Church Nihoto Kakheli Hollo offered invocation prayer, Dr. Nihoto P. Chishi, Ato Kükau and chairman of NPPC delivered welcome address, special number by Aloke Yeptho & Hapito Assumi. Vote of thanks was delivered by Shiwoto Yeptho Ato kükau & vice chairman NPPC and benediction was offered by Baptist Church Nihoto Village pastor Mughalu Awomi.
