10 Choirs to battle in grant finale of ‘Nagaland Choir Olympics’ on Oct 23

 The grand finale of “Nagaland Choir Olympics” under the aegis of Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA) ia all set to take place on October 23 at RCEMPA, Jotsoma at 5 p.m.

TaFMA has conducted auditions in all the districts with event partners from the districts. From the district auditions, 10 best choirs i.e. one each from each district have been selected.
The selected choirs are: Mon-Mon Chamber Choir, Dimapur-Cantamus Choir, Longleng-Orangkong Choir, Wokha-Bridge of the Gap Chamber Choir, Mokokchung -Ongmesang, Zunheboto- ZTSBC Youth Choir, Peren- Cantamus Choir, Kohima- Harmonic Voices, Tuensang- Yimchunger Baptist Church Choir, Phek-The Canticles.
For the grand finale, there will be two rounds of performances. In each round, choirs will present one song each.
Director, Aroha Choir, Shillong, Pauline Warjri will be the chief judge for the event.
The best choir will receive a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh along with a trophy. The first and second runner up will get Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 25,000 respectively.
Meanwhile, on October 24, another audition for all the 10 participating choirs will be held to select a choir for Nagaland, and efforts will be made to participate in the world choir games scheduled to be held in Belgium next year.
The event is being managed by Musicians Guild, Nagaland.
TaFMA advisor, Theja Meru stated “Choral music is a big part of our DNA and heritage, and the event is being organized to acknowledge and promote choral music at a professional level, which we believe will enable and prepare our singers to participate in national and international platforms in future, ”
