Two civilians and a personnel of the Assam Rifles sustained minor injuries when suspected NSCN-K (Yung Aung faction) attacked a camp of the Assam Rifles between Old and new village of Chenloisho village under Mon district on Sunday around 2.15 a.m.
Speaking to Nagaland Post Chenloisho Village Council chairman Nokkhak Konyak said suspected NSCN armed cadres attacked the 40 Assam Rifles D-Coy camp. The AR troops opened retaliatory fire and the gunfight lasted for about 30 minutes. He said the incident took place near a prayer house, located above the AR camp.
During the clash, an explosive tore through the roof of a house nearby, injuring the husband and wife who were inside at that time. Soon after the incident, both police and district administration officials, village guards and elders rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. There was no report of any casualty till the time of filing this report.
Defence sources said that a group of armed militants carried out the attack on the 40 AR camp, during which one AR personnel received minor injuries.
“The insurgents ran away after coming under immediate and accurate fire from the Assam Rifles troops,” said defence sources.
“The action of NSCN-K(YA) is fallout of their desperation due to wanting influence of violence in the State and apprehension of top leaders like SS Maj Gen Yanghang@Mopa and SS Kilonser Imti Ao, thereby severely degrading the extortion and forced recruitment by the faction,” PRO (Defence) stated in a press note.
CVC condemns: Chenloisho Village Council has condemned the firing incident and for disturbing the peaceful atmosphere of the village and creating fear psychosis among the villagers.
CVC appealed to both underground groups and Assam Rifles to shun violence and restore peace in the area and the state in general.
