Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DDLSA) conducted workshop on “mediation techniques” with the officials of customary court at its front office in Dimapur on October 29.
A press release by NSLSA public relations assistant stated that, the workshop was chaired by panel lawyer, DDLSA, Sentimenla. Keynote address was delivered by principal district and sessions judge and chairperson DDLSA, Y. Longkumer.
In the first session, state panel lawyer, Limasenla Longkumer spoke on the topics “Concept of mediation, role of mediator and difference between mediation and judicial process/arbitration/lok adalat/conciliation/panchayat.”
State panel lawyer, Limhathung Ezong was the resource in the second session. He spoke on the topics “Stages of mediation process and benefits of mediation”. This was followed by an interaction session. The workshop was attended by 12 members of the customary court.
Kohima DLSA also conducted the same workshop at Phenshunyu village panchayat.
The programme was chaired by panel lawyer Kohima DLSA, Mhayani Kikon. Short speech was delivered by chairman village council Phenshunyu village, chairman of Khenyu village, chairman of Phentejon Bamboo Model village.
Keynote address was delivered by secretary, Kohima DLSA, Phuleto Yeptho. He highlighted the functions and importance of legal services, the role of panel lawyer, PLV and gave a basic introduction of mediation.
A topic presentation on legal aid and its services was presented by panel lawyer KDLSA, Mika H. Aye. She stressed on legal services authority and its constitution, how to avail legal service, to whom it can be provided and about the importance of Lok Adalat.
A topic presentation on mediation techniques as an alternate dispute redressal was presented by Veswupoi Theyo, advocate Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench. He highlighted about the birth and existence of mediation, giving a reflection to Naga social practise in the past in solving conflict. He stressed on the introductory setting of mediation on how problems of people can be settled between the two parties. He also highlighted about the birth of Naga statehood and the implementation of Article 371A. Later, an interaction was held between the GBs and DBs and resource persons.
