Jindal South-West (JSW) Foundation chairperson, Sangita Jindal, Monday arrived Nagaland and visited the Heirloom Naga— a design firm based in Dimapur, to gain the firsthand experience of craft making and understand the problems.

Heirloom Naga, founded and run by Jesmina Zeliang, manufactures and exports native Naga textiles, jewellery and artefacts. It may be mentioned that JSW Prize for Contemporary Craftsmanship 2019 was awarded to Heirloom Naga in recognition of empowering the Naga weaver. It is a prize that seeks out those who are contributing to a new conversation on craftsmanship in India.

Asked about the purpose of her visit, JSW Foundation chairperson, Sangita Jindal, told Nagaland Post that she has come here to understand the people involved and their problems.

She said JSW foundation upon realising there was a lot of craft in the country, which did not get much recognition, decided to award money to crafts people all over India every year.  “The reason for doing this is to award them money and then go to their studio and then they do a master piece for me. So I came here to see the master piece and see the studio, because otherwise in Mumbai you don’t know the reality. But when you come here you realise the city, people and problems. So it is a way of getting to know our country and how to improve it,” JSW foundation chairperson said.
