Along with other Nagaland University (NU) campuses, the NU campus at Meriema Wednesday organized sit-in protest against recent attack on teachers and students in various universities across the country during protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Act and National Register of Citizen.

The protest was attended by Nagaland University Teachers’ Association (NUTA) members, research scholars’ forum, student representatives and others.
Speaking at the event, CEC NUTA president Prof. Rosemary Dzüvichu expressed serious concern over the attacks on teachers and students during the past months at various universities. Dzüvichu said CAA was highly undemocratic and against the secular fabric of the country.
Prof. Dzüvichu said it was time for the central government to listen to the voice of the citizens and change the policy and revoke the CAA.  Maintaining that every citizen should be able to exercise their fundamental rights guaranteed by the constitution, CEC NUTA president remarked that if the government did not respect the constitution then the dark days were ahead.
Also, addressing the rally, former president of NUTA Prof. G.T. Thong said it was very serious matter that the premier institutions in the country like JNU were attacked over CAA issue.
He said today Muslims were attacked, but next target could be Christians, Dalit, and other religions. He called upon the gathering to unitedly fight against such undemocratic activities.
NUSU vice president Chinge NA, NUTA Kohima campus president Prof. B.V. Rao and NUTA general secretary Prof. D. Kuolie also address the gathering.
