Even as number of confirmed coronavirus cases (COVID-19) rise in India and around the world, several organisations have expressed concern over continuous spread of virus and appealed to the state government to take all necessary precautionary steps.

NPF: Appreciating the state government for taking up its effort for the preventive measures in the state, NPF, however, maintained that more and stringent effort was required to check and prevent that not a single case of Covid-19 was reported from the state.

NPF through its press bureau asserted that the spread of virus should be tackled collectively. It has urged the government to install a Covid-19 test Centre even in Nagaland as Guwahati test Centre was the only nearest centre available for the Nagaland, which was difficult for the citizen of Nagaland to avail the facility. NPF also suggested that Dimapur railway station should minutely monitor as thousands of visitors travel every day.

Further, the party urged the government to check the supply and availability of face mask and hand sanitizer besides putting effort to curtail the price rise.

NPF has called upon the state government to give its best effort to educate the people even to the remotest areas about the safety measures. It expressed hope that the government was well equipped with all modern technologies. NPF has also called upon the citizens not to remain fear but appeal every Naga believers to uphold one another in prayers “so that Almighty God will save us from the pandemic Covid-19.”

AYO: Angami Youth Organisation  (AYO) has also impressed upon the state government to be prepared with all necessary measures. In a press release, AYO president Kekhrie Pfukha expressed the need to establish testing facilities in all the district centres besides setting up quarantine centres for people returning home.

Expressing belief that the government was putting its best effort by taking all necessary measures, AYO has, however, urged the government to tackle the issue with utmost seriousness.

“The people of the State have placed our trust on the government. At a time like this, it is our earnest desire that the government of the day will stand up positively to protect our citizens from this pandemic,” AYO stated.

Meanwhile, AYO has lauded the state government for suspending classes for schools and colleges and putting blanket ban on tourist entry.

DNSU: Dimapur Stimi Students’ Union (DSSU) claimed that despite warning issued by the responsible authority many shopkeepers have altered/tampered the prices of masks and sanitizers.

In a press release, DNSU accused the shopkeepers of extorting money indirectly from the public who were caught up in chaos sparked by coronavirus.

DNSU claimed that Rs.10 and Rs.20 masks were being sold at Rs.30 and Rs.50 respectively by the pharmacies. It also claimed that hand sanitizers were being sold at higher prices than MRP. The union cautioned that it would “not tolerate such mal practices” and would be remain vigilant to report such practices to the responsible authorities to take stern action.

Further, DSSU has informed the general public to take precautionary measures and stay vigilant and file complaint with the responsible authority if any shopkeepers were found selling the products at higher prices.

TSUD: Tenyimi Students’ Union Dimapur (TSUD) has appealed to the state government to review and take proactive measures.

In an appeal letter addressed to the state chief minister, TSUD president Rukewezo Wetsah pointed out that when the most developed countries were struggling to contain the virus, the spread of the virus would be catastrophic for the state like Nagaland, which did not have “advanced facilities to combat the virus.”

Reminding of the adage “prevention is better than cure,” the TSUD has appealed to the state government to restrict entry and movements of travelers in entry/check gates especially in Dimapur as precautionary measures.

Further, TSUD urged the state government to ensure to disinfect public places regularly; encourage commuters to use mask in public transportations and places; ensure hospitals and pharmacies have enough stock of hand sanitizers, mask, gloves, tissues and wipes; check medical stores selling mask and sanitisers at inflated prices; organise community-based awareness programmes in colonies and villages; ensure hospitals have isolation wards and enough additional beds to accommodate patients.
