Dimapur VDBs yet to receive grants

April 13, 2020 | by admin

Village Development Boards (VDBs) of villages in Dimapur district and whose accounts are with Vijaya Bank, which has now merged with Bank of Baroda, have claimed that the grant-in-aid released to VDBs by the state government in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic had not been credited to their bank accounts.

The State government had decided to make 50% advance payment of grant-in-aid for 2019-2020 to the villages in the early part of April, not for any developmental activities but to be utilised for the pandemic-related emergency activities in rural areas.

Dimapur deputy commissioner and project director of DRDA Dimapur had reportedly issued the cheques on April 7 that were subsequently deposited to the respective VDB bank accounts.

An official of Aghunaqa rural development (RD) block confirmed with Nagaland Post that the VDBs under the block were pressurising the department for transferring the amount into their accounts. He clarified that the department concerned had already deposited the cheques to their respective bank accounts and urged the banks concerned to do the needful at the earliest as the fund was meant for utilisation for emergency activities in the villages.

Villages under Aghunaqa RD block are located far away from Dimapur and under present circumstances it is very difficult for VBD secretaries to travel often to the town. No bank officials could be contacted for their comments till the filing of this report.
