522.45 ha agri crops damaged in Nagaland

The recent impact of heavy rainfall, thunder squalls and hailstorm damaged 522.45 hectares (ha) of agricultural crops in Nagaland.

An assessment on the scale of damage in terms of area and types of field crops affected were surveyed by the field officers and functionaries in their respective districts and sub-divisions. 

The details of district wise field area and crops affected from highest to the least affected were– Zunheboto 212.5 ha (maize, kholar, potato, cucumber & watermelon), Kiphire 182.0 ha (maize, kholar & potato), Tuensang 59.0 ha (potato, cabbage, kholar & maize), Kohima 20.0 ha (potato, maize, jobstear, cabbage & carrot), Longleng 18.5 ha (paddy, maize & vegetable), Dimapur 12.45 ha (maize, tomato & vegetable), Mokokchung 9.6 ha (paddy, maize & vegetable (cucumber, yam etc.) Phek 8.0 ha (maize, bean & cabbage) and Peren 0.4 ha (maize)

According to director of Agriculture, M. Ben Yanthan, the names of the affected farmers were also collected by the respective DAO’s and SDAO’s for onward submission to the Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Ministry, GoI, Kolkata division.
