Criticism of state govt blown out of proportion: NPP unit

June 12, 2020 | by admin

Perhaps wanting to put an end to the war of words with NDPP, NPP Nagaland unit said its criticism of the State government had been blown out of proportion and negatively viewed.

In a statement, the party clarified that its intention of criticising the negligence and mismanagement of the government was not prejudicial to any individual or party, and nor was it its intention to defame or cause harm to any individual, party or organisation.
Reiterating that it had always appreciated the departments concerned ever since COVID-19 pandemic reached Nagaland, NPP however asserted that as a matured political party it was firm in its endeavour to fight any corruption and mismanagement of public funds.
Stating that it was its bounden right and duty to bring to fore any anomaly detected in the government’s policies, especially in management of the current crisis, the party clarified that it was not directly against the government.
“We are against the wrong implementation of the policies and steps undertaken by the government, which is against the benefit and welfare of the general public,” the statement emphasised.
Citing Tuensang and Peren fiascos where the government was caught on the wrong foot, NPP alleged mismanagement in quarantine centres. There have been reports from many quarantine centres that a majority of the inmates had not been tested till date despite having completed 18 days of their stay, it added.
The party also referred to reports of inmates complaining about half-cooked and poor quality food being served to them, besides sub-standard accommodation facilities.
NPP urged the government, especially the Dimapur district administration, to work out a plan to ensure that the general public was not unduly affected during the arrival of trains from outside the State. It called for localised restriction of public movement around the periphery of the railway station and its suburbs as there was no logic in total restriction.
Referring to the party’s loss in the by-poll to 26 Aolengden Assembly constituency, NPP Nagaland said after its new office-bearers assumed office in September 2019, an internal investigation was carried out to find out the exact cause.
Thereafter, the party claimed to have discovered the malicious intention of one of the party’s poll in-charges who spearheaded and took the entire responsibility of the constituency whereby a former intending candidate was fielded without seeking approval from the party’s then State president or any senior member of the party.
NPP wondered what motivated the PDA government to later appoint that candidate as chairman of Nagaland Hotels Limited.
