Business Association of Nagas (BAN) has appealed to the state government to do away with collection of money at all check gates and highways and ensure safe passage to transporters entering/crossing the state.
BAN through its media cell said it has taken note of the warning issued by Karbi Anglong truckers that they would be compelled to block the National Highways to Dimapur unless the DC Dimapur reviewed the order of taking punitive action against overloading of goods vehicles under relevant MV Act.
In this regard, BAN said that not addressing the demand of transporters would “greatly affect most Naga business firms in Kohima and Dimapur” especially at a time when business crippled by COVID-19 pandemic had just started and was limping back to normalcy with great difficulty. The association said that transport trucks not entering state’s two main commercial hubs would bring business into a stand still.
Stating that transporters carry excess load to meet the multiple collection of money at various points, BAN said that complying with the order would adversely affect the business fraternity with high cost of transportation. BAN said that the brunt of price rise would ultimately be borne by the public/consumers.
Meanwhile, expressing resentment over non-implementation of GST norm, BAN said that tax for both central and state were paid, but transporters were subjected to pay beyond GST.
