Dr. Jamir reminds Church of its transformational role

October 31, 2020 | by admin

Veteran Naga politician and former chief minister and governor Dr. S.C. Jamir has reminded the body of Christ- the church- about their role in the bringing about transformation to Naga society amidst the present day state of affairs where social evils dominate and where lawlessness abound.

In an article, Dr. Jamir said these painted a grim scenario that made Nagaland appear like a ship without a rudder.

Against evidence of systematic collapse of all systems in Nagaland, Dr. Jamir asked “should we, the church, remain silent and allow the already volatile situation to degenerate more? Or remain just silent spectators only?” He reminded that decades ago, spiritual leaders of the church had given a clarion call for “Nagaland for Christ” as over 95% of people are Christians. However, Dr. Jamir asked what does Christianity tell us and what are its ideals and principles?

Mentioning a chapter in the book of Ecclesiastes, Dr.Jamir said there is a season and time for everything under heaven.

He asked was it now not a time to build up? Dr. Jamir said as a “Christian state” to demonstrate in reality, the proclamation of “Nagaland for Christ, ” was it not time to dethrone hatred and coronate love; to destroy hypocrisy and coronate truthfulness; to dethrone violence and coronate love; to dethrone ill-will towards others and coronate compassion in our hearts?

Quoting Isaiah 60:1-3, Dr. Jamir went on to remind the church “ Arise, shine, for your light has come and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you” and fervently hoping that “Nagaland will come to God’s light” adding perhaps the time is today.
