Mushroom cultivation encouraged in Wokha district

Wokha Forest Division (WFD), Doyang Plantation Division (DPD) and Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM) Wokha organised training on “method demonstration on oyster mushroom cultivation” on November 11 at the community hall, Forest Colony, Wokha.

A press release by NFD and member IUCN SSC Hornbill specialist group, Lansothung Lotha stated that, technical session was conducted by Apibeni Y. Kikon, area coordinator (livelihoods), Changpang block, where she thoroughly demonstrated and gave hands on experience to the participants on the various methods and procedures involved in oyster mushroom cultivation. 
DEO, NSRLM, Nchumbemo Patton also assisted in the demonstration. Assistant district programme manager, NSRLM, Wokha, Samuel Kithan encouraged the participants to continue with their good performance and also highlighted the various activities of the department. Short speech was also delivered by Nzanbemo Patton, block programme manager, RD Wokha block.
Earlier in the programme, the keynote address was delivered by DFO, Doyang Plantation Division, Chisayi. 
He stressed on the need for the SHGs and EDCs to seize the opportunity and derive maximum benefit through the practise of mushroom cultivation. Vote of thanks was proposed by Yanarao Mozhui, Fr-I, while Lansothung Lotha, RFO, Baghty was the chairperson. 
Altogether 20 villages from Wokha and Zunheboto districts participated in the training, represented by Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Eco-development Committees (EDC) of the respective villages. Over 300 kgs of oyster mushroom spawns and various kits required for its cultivation were also distributed.
