
State department of environment forests & climate change (EF&CC)has released a Burmese Rock Python (Python bivittatus) into the wild at Longra village on November 28 morning in the presence of Longra village council.
In a press release, wildlife warden, Kiphire wildlife division, Suman W M Sivachar, said that the python had strayed into the paddy fields of the village on November 27, 2020.
Kiphire wildlife division was intimated of the matter by DFO Tuensang Zupeni Tsanglai on the evening of November 27, 2020, since Tuensang district comes under its jurisdiction for wildlife related matters, wildlife warden said.
After assessing that the health of the python was good, it was released back into the forest nearby the village safely in the presence of Sangbo, Forest Guard, Tuensang Forest Division and Longra Village Council members. Longra village and surrounding villages like Noksen and Litem are located near Dikhu river. Pythons are normally present in such areas of Tuensang.
Meanwhile, the department has expressed gratitude to Longra village council and villagers for extending their cooperation and for their active involvement towards conservation.
