
At least two houses were destroyed and three persons suffered burn injuries in a fire that took place at Yongnyah Chingong village under Longleng district on Tuesday at around 11:30 p.m.
According to sources, the houses which were of wooden structure were occupied by a joint family who were asleep when the incident took place.
Sources also informed that the houses were reduced to ashes which included cash and livestock however no loss of life was reported apart from partial burn injuries on three occupants.
Hundreds of villagers assisted in stopping the fire from spreading to surrounding houses however some of the houses sustained partial damage by the blaze.
Cause of the fire could not be ascertained.
As per the report, properties worth Rs. 10-15 lakhs (approx) were lost in the fire.
Meanwhile, 23 Assam Rifles ‘D’ company Longleng visited the village and provided immediate relief to the victims and administered first aid to the injured.
District administration, police, NGOs of the district and well wishers also visited the village.
