
After a day’s hiatus, the state-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs) increased the prices of petrol and diesel on Friday pushing fuel prices across the country to new historic highs.
According to a price notification of state-owned OMCs, petrol price was hiked by 27 paise per litre and diesel by 28 paise per litre. In Delhi, petrol hit an all-time high of Rs 96.93 a litre, while diesel is now priced at Rs 87.69 per litre.
Following the latest rate revision, petrol price in Dimapur rose to Rs.95.61 per litre while diesel price soared to Rs.89.81 per litre. In the state capital Kohima, prices of petrol and diesel surged to Rs.96.56 per litre and Rs.90.57 per litre respectively.
Fuel prices differ from state to state depending on the incidence of local taxes such as VAT and freight charges.
The hike on Friday was the 26th increase in prices since May 4. In 26 hikes, petrol price has risen by Rs 6.53 per litre and diesel by Rs 6.96 a litre.
