State chief minister Neiphiu Rio inaugurated an oxygen generation plant at district hospital, Tuensang Tuesday. The plant is a joint initiative of the state government, United Nations Development Programme and Government of Japan.

Speaking on the occasion, Rio thanked and acknowledged the support of Government of Japan and UNDP in helping setting up of the oxygen generation plant. He said Nagaland was a small state, out of which only Kohima, Dimapur and Mokokchung had such a facility. But now, with launching of the plant at Tuensang and another scheduled at Phek, he said the State’s health sector would benefit.

Asserting that the plant would help save many lives in the far-flung district not only during the pandemic but also in the long-run, he said the district hospital with smart technical support and facilities could play a major role in augmenting health services as Tuensang lacked private hospitals.

Rio urged the technicians to maintain the equipment with utmost care and sincerity so that the facility could give the much-needed service not only to people of Tuensang district, but even the neighbouring districts as well. Health & family welfare (H&FW) minister Pangnyu Phom, in his speech, expressed his appreciation to UNDP and Government of Japan for the support during the tough time of Covid-19 pandemic.
