Webinar on ‘scope& challenges of social work practice in 21st century’

A webinar on the theme, “scope and challenges of social work practice in 21stcentury” was organised by North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) 2nd semester students on June 26.
A press release by NEISSR informed that the resource persons were co- founder and steering committee member Global Civil Society Network for Malaria Elimination (CS4ME), Dr. Shampa Nag; president Nagaland Professional Social Workers Association (NPSWA), Itulungbe Ndang and Programme Officer for North East West (NEW) of CBR Forum, Bangalore, Namghaklung Christopher.
Principal NEISSR, founder and director of Peace Channel, Rev. Dr. Fr C.P Antospoke about the need to contextualize the primary and secondary methods of social work.
Emphasising on the principles and scope of social work, Itulungbe Ndang said that social work organisations and NGOs would need to work on new projects to tackle post-COVID challenges.
Dr. Shampa said in order to be a social worker, one needs to be very passionate and be grounded. In times of this pandemic when social workers are not able reach out to community people effectively, he said one should look out for ways and means to reach out to people either through various virtual platforms or physically with proper precautionary measures.
Namghaklung highlighted the approaches of Community Based Rehabilitation (CRR) to work for persons with disability. He said that CBR approach could be used in tackling various community related issues and problem and need not be restricted to working for persons with disability alone.
