Self destruct mode

 Three years ahead of the big fight in 2024 and the Grand Old Party (GoP) of India-Congress- seems to be in a hurry to become the Gone Old Party of India with the way the party’s high command- comprising of the Gandhis-are systematically dismantling the party’s edifice. Congress-mukht Bharat or Congress-less India is the BJP’s proclaimed goal but this appears easier said than done. Quite ironically it is the Congress party itself, which is helping the BJP fulfill this goal of Congress-mukht bharat. Besides having failed to win recent elections, the Congress is also losing many of its upcoming young leaders who see no future in the party. They seem to say that the party high command is not in touch with changing realities and unable to unify all factions to fight their greatest foe- BJP. The Congress led Indians in fighting for and eventually gaining freedom from the British. The Congress is the only party that has ruled India for the longest period- almost 55 years through various prime ministers, the last being Dr. Manmohan Singh from 2004 to 2014. Today, the Congress is not only crumbling but it is being brought down by its own leaders. The Congress ship is sinking and the leadership, instead of plugging the loophole, is busy removing party stalwarts with who the Gandhis are uncomfortable with. The Gandhis seem to be afflicted with some bizarre idea that it is time to rid the party of the old and bring in the new. That may not be insane but certainly, when done by someone who can play the game well. The Gandhi siblings humiliated Captain Amarinder by convening the CLP meeting of the Punjab government in Delhi(and not Chandigarh) without his consent. Again he was not even shown the courtesy of being asked to step down but his fate was already decided by the Gandhis and to be approved at the CLP meeting in Delhi. The Gandhi siblings may be tempted to think they have ‘fixed’ the independent and powerful Amarinder but they don’t realize it is going to be at great cost to the party’s image especially when Punjab is going to the polls by March 2022. A veteran leader who has led the party to victory cannot be humiliated like that. After Punjab, the siblings may feel emboldened to do likewise in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan the only two other Congress-ruled states besides Punjab. Their only right to claim to be the unmerited leaders of the Congress is because they have the surname of ‘Gandhi’ title. However, the Gandhis are failing to tackle every major crisis within the party as even in Goa, the party has lost its senior most leader Luizinho Faleiro to the TMC. It had already lost Sushmita Dev , daughter of veteran Assam Congress leader Santosh Mohan Dev to the TMC, while another upcoming leader Pradyot Debbarma also quit the party and floated his own party in Tripura. In fact, most of the chief ministers in the north east- Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh etc were former Congress leaders. The Gandhi siblings–Rahul and Priyanka- run Congress by proxy through their doting mother. However, the tragedy is the sibling are biting off more they can chew as they lack political instinct, acumen and are totally inexperienced in the field. This is clear proof that the Congress has shrunk to its lowest irrelevance into a private limited family property and the biggest gainer being the BJP.
