PCC holds capacity building programme on ‘Filmmaking, Festival and Fourth Wall’

 A capacity building programme on “Filmmaking, Festival and Fourth Wall” was organized by the department of Multimedia and Mass Communication, Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) on October 7 at the college conference hall. 

General Secretary, Film Association of Nagaland, filmmaker Yapangnaro Longkumer was the guest speaker of the programme. Longkumer spoke at length on the importance of pitching ideas, writing a good proposal and the scope of filmmaking in the state of Nagaland. 

In her opening remarks, the speaker highlighted the challenges in getting funding-aid as independent filmmaker while stating that filmmaking is a passion driven career and that one has to learn to pitch ideas to the right organization for grants. 

She maintained that filmmaking is a continuous process and in recent years it has been significantly up with many young filmmakers exploring the field in the state. 

Sharing her journey as a filmmaker, the speaker illustrated on personalizing one’s craft (film) to connect with the mass and maintain what matters in the story.

The speaker also stated that the Film Association of Nagaland is dedicated in bringing all the filmmakers from the state as well as the Northeast to create a network central to their passion.

She acknowledged the Directorate of Information and Public Relations in successfully supporting two editions of the state film festival.  

Students were asked to pitch ideas for public service announcements on any socially relevant issues. The exercise helped the students understand the importance of visualizing one’s craft even before the actual shoot. 

Three films on domestic violence, human trafficking and gender discrimination were screened on the day.

The programme focused on the art of filmmaking, strengthening students’ capacity to organize film festivals and other events and also expose them to the challenges of filmmaking and event management.
