Against the backdrop of the alleged assault on Aremchang Imchen at Khopanala area under Chümoukedima police station by Kevechulo Koza and Keneilekuo Zumvu on October 13, the Chümoukedima A village has warned that it would be “conducting surprise checking now and then.”

In a press release, Chümoukedima A village chairman Neikholie Shüya and secretary Avi Chase stated that the village would take necessary action in order to stop its village from becoming “haven for all social evils to breed freely.”

Expressing disappointment over the village name being tarnished by people from elsewhere, it said they were causing “undesired incidences under the influence of alcohol and practicing all sorts of immoral activities”.

Chümoukedima A village stated that it was not a “night partying place, a place or bar for alcohol or a place to do all immoral activities in the dark.”

Further, while praying for a speedy recovery for Aremchang Imchen, Chümoukedima A village extended its full support to the demand of Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) that the law enforcing department take immediate action and execute justice.

MSUD condemns: Mangmetong Students Union Dimapur (MSUD) has expressed deep pained over the “grievous physical injury” and attempted murder on its member Aremchang which it said was “verbal insult meted out” to the Ao community.

In a condemnation note, MSUD president Imnatemsü Pongen and general secretary Tsüktilong Jamir stated that when the younger generation was striving for brotherhood and to eradicate tribalism, “there exist such uncivilised people amongst us whose sole objective is to destroy the very social fabric of our society.”

The students’ union stated that it would “neither forgive nor forget” and requested the responsible authorities that justice be delivered without any bias at the earliest.

MSUD also said that it was “ever ready to further pursue and take its own course of action if the outcome is unsatisfactory.”
