District jail inaugurated in Longleng

Advisor, prisons and printing & stationary, H. Haiying inaugurated district jail, Longleng on Thursday in the presence of minister for health & family welfare, S. Pangnyu Phom, advisor DUDA, N. Bongkho Konyak and S. Keoshu Yimchunger, MLA. 

According to a DIPR report, advisor prisons, printing & stationary, H. Haiying stated that there were10 district jails and one central jail in the state, and with the addition of Longleng district jail there would be a total of 12 jails in Nagaland.

He said there were ups and downs in the process of the project but it was successfully completed and congratulated the contractors and all involved.

Haiying exhorted the gathering that an institution for justice was administered in the district and from that day forth, they should choose the right path.

“When we talk about jail in modern concept, it is considered a correctional service”, he added.

Meanwhile, minister, health & family welfare, S. Pangnyu Phom hoped that the district jail would solve issues such as crimes, drugs and robbery. He urged the district administration, NGOs and the public to cooperate and make the best use of the establishment. 

Bongkhao Konyak, S. Keoshu Yimchunger, ADC Longleng, Bhumnyu village council chairman and Phom People Council president also spoke at the programme. 

The programme was chaired by SRO (Plg) prison HQs, Kohima, C. Lwngnyei Konyak, vote of thanks was delivered by senior superintendent of jails prisons HQs, Kohima, Khushito Awomi while dedicatory prayer was said by Oushok Baptist Church pastor, Rev. Chingkon. 

Earlier, executive engineer (CAWD) Kohima, Sungtiba Amer spoke on the construction report of the jail.
