Northern Angami Women Organisation (NAWO) celebrated its silver jubilee on the theme “truth is strength” at AMK building, here on Tuesday.
Guest of honor for the celebration, Kaisa Rio, wife of chief minister Neiphiu Rio in her speech paid respects to the officials of the organisation. She said NAWO had made significant developments in the past 25 years through which women had benefitted.
She urged the organisation to look back and introspect and strive to improve itself in the weaker areas.
Kaisa pointed out that in the past, women focused mostly in household chores and cultivation.
However, she said this had changed in the present time and now women were excelling in education and employment avenues which in turn had improved the living standard. She pointed out that news of women performing well in their professions were very encouraging and helps motivate others to follow suit.
“I am hopeful that we would progress in so many other fields by the time we reach 50tth anniversary”, Kaisa said.
She opined that there was a need to change the perception that all educated youths should get a government job.
Instead, she said, parents should encourage and guide their children to earn their livelihood through the profession of their choice. She pointed out that government had come up with various schemes to help the youth prepare and equip themselves to earn their living.
Therefore, parents should encourage their children to take part in all these activities, Kaisa said.
Through this celebration, she hoped that NAWO in particular and women in general would have a clearer vision at the same time rededicate themselves and be blessing to their families, society and the nation.
Earlier, at a programme Kaisa unveiled a plague commemorating the silver jubilee.
The programme was chaired by organising committee convenor, Ruokuoheü Miachieo while Peraciezie Baptist Church associate pastor, Ruokuoleü Seyie invoked God’s blessings.
