HFPCYA Pfutsero holds 5th convention

 Holy Family Parish Catholic Youth Association (HFPCYA), Pfutsero held its 5th convention from December 29 – 31 at St. Paul’s Church, North Kikruma, Phek.

Assistant Parish Priest, Holy Family Parish Pfutsero, Rev. Fr. Dhazü SJ, was the main celebrant for the Holy Eucharist under the theme “Fruit of the Spirit” (Galatians 5: 22-23).  While inaugurating the 5th convention of HFPCYA, Pfutsero, Rev. Fr. Dhazü SJ stressed and encouraged the youth on the importance of listening to Jesus as the Heavenly Father said in Mt 17:5 “This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased, listen to Him”. Listening must be followed by doing as Mary said to the servants in John 2:5 ‘do whatever he tells you’, he added.

Speaker TOT, Education Block Resource Center Pfutsero, Kezevinuo Krome, spoke on the topic “Youth Ministry – Challenges and Responsibilities”. She said that there are a lot of temptations in this glamorous, materialistic and fast changing technology world. She said that youth are power packed people, and they should use their passion and energy for the glory of God like St. Paul and Timothy. “They should be sincere because the Church needs sincere people for evangelization”, she added. 

Krome asserted that the youth should build up their relationship with God by praying, reading Bible consistently. She urged the youth to give up their bad habits and stand firmly grounded in faith with a heart for Jesus just like St. Paul and Timothy.

Speaker scientist Agronomy, AICRP on Pigeonpea, SASARD NU, Medziphema, Dr. Lowrence Kithan, who is also the president of NCYM spoke on the topic, “Sacraments”. He said that the seven sacraments are the outward signs of salvation that Jesus Christ has given to his Church so the Church in Christ is like a Sacrament. It touches all the stages and all the important moments of Christian life and which in turn give birth and increase healing and mission to the Christians life of faith. He also released the Constitution of HFPCYA, Pfutsero.

While speaker assistant professor, Dept. of Mathematics and Dy. Controller of Examinations, Kohima Science College (Autonomous) Jotsoma, Teisovi Gerard Meyase spoke on the topic, “Rosary”. He said that the Rosary is the most widely practised form of extra-liturgical devotion to Mary among Catholics. It is also prayed by Anglicans, Lutherans and increasing many other Protestants and Orthodox Christians. He also released the first magazine for documentation of HFPCYA, Pfutsero.

Presidential address was delivered by president of HFPCYA Pfutsero, Er. Kopelo Dominic Letou. The youth competed in various events during the 5th convention. Solo, duet – western, extempore speech, choreography and theme song, ‘Catholic Action Tsali’ (Catholic action song).

Dignitaries such as catechists, office bearers of NCYM, CCYA, St. Ignatius Parish, Razeba and well-wishers were present during the convention. The flag lowering ceremony for the convention was done by Catechist of St. Paul’s Church, North Kikruma, Vetsonuyo Victor Tunyi.
