Expressing deep concern over the present trends of losing almost all the cultural practices, tradition and good virtues bestowed by the forefathers, Nagaland’s lone Rajya Sabha member Kewezü G. Kenye called upon the people to revisit the good character, integrity, honesty and good traditional practices.
He was speaking at the golden jubilee celebration of Zhavame Youth Society (ZYS) at Zhavame village under Phek district on Tuesday.
Kenye pointed out that the values of good tradition, characters, and strong morals cannot be bought from the market and called upon the village authority, women and youth societies to embark on imparting the basic human moral values and the rich tradition and culture to the younger generation.
“We work and eat, while honesty has always been our principle but today, we fear nothing, love nobody and have become shameless,” he said. Terming it as a highly dangerous and volatile situation, he questioned as to where the Nagas are heading to? In this, he stressed on the need to re-visit the rich tradition and culture.
Complimenting ZYS for attaining 50 glorious years, Kenye said “50 years is a long time in human relation and we are fortunate to have come across to celebrate the occasion.”
He saluted the pioneers for shouldering the responsibility as the guardians of Zhavame in different sectors while also defending and working for the welfare and upliftment of the community.
Maintaining that Zhavame village is one of the strongest pillars of the Chakhesang tribe, he said Zhavame has a major role to play in the socio-political aspect of the Chakhesangs and Nagas, “as we share the boundaries with other states and other tribes in Manipur.”
In this, he appealed to the villagers to be peace-makers and ambassadors of the Chakhesangs in particular and the Nagas in general.
ZYS was formed in 1971 to work for the welfare of the youth by also ensuring that they are on the right track by regulating their affairs based on certain set of rules.
The celebration of the 50 years of the formation of ZYS was held under the theme “Let the past design the future.”
Earlier, the MP unveiled the jubilee monolith in presence of former minister Deo Nukhu at the village ground and also released the souvenir.
Deo Nukhu, chief host of the celebration also spoke on the occasion while Chakhesang Youth Front president Vezhodüyi Nakro shared greetings. ZYS president Suokho Pohena delivered the presidential address.
The occasion also witnessed folk tune from Zhavame Women Society, indigenous song ‘Lalou’ from Danyi Movi & friends and a special number by Lisii Nukhu.
Later, Zhavame village council chairman Zao Krocha graced the cultural session.
