GB Union East Dimapur responds to DVC

GB Union East Dimapur (GBUED) claimed it had convened an emergency meeting on November 17, 2021, which was widely published in all local dailies the previous day, and a memorandum was submitted to the chief secretary with the consent of majority present at the meeting. Hence, it said the question of Darogapathar Village Council (DVC) being unaware about the meeting did not arise.

Replying to a letter of DVC chairman and GBs in this regard, GBUED president, Niuto Awomi and general secretary, Pitu Mech further clarified that the allegation of deliberate misuse of Darogapathar village’s nomenclature by East Dimapur GBs Union was erroneous and unwarranted as the village had always been integral part of the union when the latter was formed on May 19, 2012 at Purana Bazar, Village Council Hall with the consent and participation of all 22 federating villages, includes Darogapathar with representation of head GB Bhoben Sangma and GB Shikheto Murru.

They claimed that Darogapathar had even paid a registration fee of Rs 5,000 (receipt no. 14, dated 18/12/2013) and hence the question of deliberate misuse of the village nomenclature or that the village had never been part of the union did not arise.

Mentioning that the main purpose of 22 villages coming to form East Dimapur GBs Union was to appraise the State government about formation of EAC administrative headquarters, they said the union was formed even before Chümoukedima GBs Union came into being

Further asserting that they believed that Darogapathar was not a hereditary village of particular clan, tribes or community and the village council chairmanship or GB was subject to change from time to time, Niuto and Pitu said the village council thus ought to give due regard to their predecessors and take into account the good deeds or decision taken in the interest of the village. If not, this would amount to utter disregard and malign the image of their predecessors, which would set a bad precedent, they cautioned.

They said they looked forward to DVC’s cooperation for all good endeavours for the people of all 22 villages in East Dimapur.
